Archive: Crystal Fruit

This was some concept art for a children's book I have been thinking about doing. Its like a fairy tale, except I would make it up. The idea came from a phrase in a chemistry book that talked about how "silcon crystals grow" and I had, had this idea of a children's book, and it just whammed me in the head. I think the fruit came out exactly as I was thinking of. It isn't fruit made out of crystal, they aren't plants that have crystals, they aren't crystals shaped like fruit. They are crystals, that grow. So, what I got is there is this giant mountain, and the people get light inside of it, because there is a big willow tree at the top with crystals all poling in it, and that lets in the sun, and at night, moonlight shines through little tiny crystals, kinda like stars. The mountain roof is so high up, and they sun so natural, that it isn't like being in a mountain at all. Its well lit, but instead of having a blue sky, its a blueish gray, or tan sky.There are many species of crystal plants. Shown here are a jade cactus (which used textures from [link]) and some other things. I need some names, because they aren't going to be called things like "crystal strawberry" for reasons I have already mentioned. Oh yeah, and the leafs, and stems, are made out of metal (think of the scene in The Magician's Nephew where the golden tree grows, it's described as being extremely soft and malleable, thats what all the stem-metals are like)
